The HPV project is the main project for our ASME club, and involves the creation of a vehicle that is powered entirely by human muscle. Various ASME chapters show off, and race their HPV at a regional and national competition every spring.

Last year the Northern Arizona University ASME took first place in the tandem HPV category.

Rickshaw

The goal of the rickshaw project is to design and build a bike-pulled transport. This transport will then be used to ferry passengers as a fund-raiser for our ASME club, as well as act as a showcase piece for demonstrations.

Kenny and Hubert got all the components that we need and they will come soon.
Also for all the componnents and shipping it is going to cost about a $600.

All the travel and transportation details will be handled by Chris. HE is
going to get the cost and the stuff required to get to Rheno.

We finally got the stuff for conscession stand and Hubert is going to set up
today in 98C. And we will make a profit of $100.

Crispin will be monitoring the stand and making sure the stand is restocked
and also keeping record of all the stuff.

Greg has the solid works model with the design and we will soon start building
ourselves a bike. Also Kenny and Hubert are going to get the metal for the
bike and we will probably start building next week but I will let you know
soon after I get word on it.

AS soon as we start working on the HPV the meetings will be at 98C but I will
have to get back to you guys on that.

Hey guys if you can go into your classes related to engineering or you know
people who are engineering students please ask if they would like to join the
ASME. Most importantly try to recruit women (so we can get female riders and
let them know we will pay everything for them and it will be a good time
especially building the HPV and especially at the competition).Or write a note
on the board for classes to see and write your email so they can contact you
and you can let them know more about.

The next meeting will be next wednsday in the engineering building in rm
118/119 at 5:30 but if anything changes I will let you guys know.

Although the race is only 3 months away, we are still in the design phase of our Human Powered Vehicle. Construction on the HPV will begin before the end of January. Current design plans will seat two drivers side by side in the HPV, and while both people are peddling only one will control the steering and braking. We are currently breaking up into groups to work on the design of several components, including the drive chain, steering, gear ratios and such. Metal has already been purchased for the frame, and the rest of the parts will be ordered shortly.
